Top 10 Winter Getaways

June 23rd, 2007

Summer is typically the season that everyone thinks of when planning their vacations. But why not dare to be different and take a winter vacation getaway instead? If you are a skier, snowboarder, or just someone who enjoys the winter months, a winter vacation may be just what you have been looking for. There are plenty of spots around the world that make spectacular winter getaways.

Hershey. If you are traveling before or during the Christmas season, consider Hershey, Pennsylvania as your vacation destination. The home of Hershey’s candy, Hershey Park becomes home to Christmas Candyland, where over one million Christmas lights are put on display. Christmas Candyland typically runs for a month prior to Christmas.

Sweden. Located in the small riverside village of Jukkasjarvi, Sweden, Sweden’s Ice Hotel is famous worldwide for great winter vacations. The hotel is created each winter out of 10,000 tons of ice from the nearby river and 30,000 tons of snow. The hotel features the famous Absolut Ice Bar, a winter favorite for the 21+ crowd.

Yellowstone. During the winter the Yellowstone National Park, a popular summer destination in the United States, offers Lodging and Learning programs where guests of all ages can stay at Yellowstone and participate in educational lessons during the winter. These programs offer a great way for visitors of all ages to learn about the beautiful and fascinating Yellowstone Park.

Wisconsin Dells. This small Wisconsin town offers a great winter vacation at the Great Wolf Lodge, home of huge indoor water parks. Great Wolf Lodge is a popular destination for families. Visitors of Wisconsin Dells get the best of both worlds with summertime perpetually recreated indoors and snow falling outdoors. Wisconsin Dells is located near both Milwaukee and Madison, Wisconsin.

New England. One of the most historical areas in the United States, New England is where the country was founded. In addition to the number of historical sites throughout the six states that make up the region (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont), you will also find plenty to do in the winter months. Maine offers one of the nicest ski resorts in the country in Sugarloaf USA, or you can try the beautiful White Mountain area of New Hampshire where you will find a plethora of ski resorts and the historical Mount Washington, the highest peak in the Northeastern United States.

Orlando. If skiing is not really your thing and you are looking to get away from the snow for a few weeks then travel to Florida, one of the most frequented states in the US by vacationers each year. Walt Disney World offers discounted rates during specific periods of the winter months, considered the theme park’s off-season. Not only will the parks and restaurants be less crowded than during summer or a school vacation week, but you will be able to enjoy the beautiful Florida weather during your stay.

Caribbean. Why not take a cruise during the winter months? Like Florida, a Caribbean cruise offers a change of pace from the snowy, cold winter months that you may be used to. Winter is typically a perfect time for a cruise because the weather in the Caribbean has calmed down. Summer is hurricane season, spelling trouble for cruises but winter is perfect for calm seas and a relaxing cruise.

Mont Tremblant. Located in the spectacular Laurentian Mountains of the Canadian province of Quebec, Mont Tremblant offers its visitors over 600 acres of land for skiing and snowboarding. Perhaps the best choice if you are looking to take to the slopes, keep in mind that the US dollar is worth more in Canada and can go further than it would on a vacation in the United States.

Alaska. If you are traveling with children, Alaska may be the perfect vacation choice for you. Offering everything from dog sledding, one of Alaska’s most popular sports, to viewing the Northern lights, Alaska is one of the best winter vacation destinations. Although it is notorious for its cold, wintry weather, Alaska also holds a number of entertainment options that are likely to keep the whole family busy.

Lake Tahoe. For decades Lake Tahoe has been one of the top winter vacation destinations in the world. Located on the border of Nevada and California just west of Carson City, Nevada, you will find that Lake Tahoe has plenty of activities for everyone in the family. Lake Tahoe averages 360 inches of snow each year, making for a winter wonderland of fun on your winter vacation. There are a number of high quality resorts around picturesque Lake Tahoe and the Rocky Mountains make a fabulous backdrop for the perfect getaway.

InterContinental Resort Berchtesgaden - In Germany’s Only Alpine National Park

June 18th, 2007

Morning wakeup at InterContinental Resort Berchtesgaden is akin to being above the world. You are on top of a small mountain in Germany’s only alpine national park, Berchtesgaden.

If you are facing west, say in duplex suite 347, named Watzmann, you are indeed looking out at that mountain, all of 2,713 metres to its peak, snow-capped even in Summer. And between, if you are as lucky as we were, the valley will be shrouded in early-morning clouds. Add finishing touches that include a clear blue sky and you feel in heaven.

We had arrived at the 138-room resort the previous night after a two-hour drive from Munich (next time I shall fly into nearby Salzburg). Because of meticulous environmental planning you barely see the horseshoe-shaped resort until the car climbs to the front door. Inside the building, which is give-or-take three floors - you will see, soon, what I mean by this - you immediately sense space, the locale, a sense of fun and oodles of style. In front of you as you enter you look through a lounge area with, even in summer, a central real-look log fire under a ceiling-hanging canopy. Beyond is the neat grass of the centre of the horseshow. Either side of this vista, back near you, are walls seven metres high formed of natural rough-cut Stainzergneiss stone. Hanging overhead are three giant - well, three metres high - cream fabric lampshades.

Floors are polished hardwood, from this forested area. Colors are neutral, or orange. The only lasting burst of arrogant color is an over-green oil landscape in the Presidential Suite, but there are also sometimes colorful masks hanging in the main lobby, or little sculptures on 1.5-metre posts, all graduation projects from the nearby wood-carving school, which apparently is renowned.

We were offered a choice of cold herbal teas from named carafes. 347 is one of the highly desirable two-floor suites set alternately, with normal rooms, on the inside facets of the horseshoe arms on the top floor of the building. The total 154 sq metres consists of a main floor office with big desk, a day bed and a half-bathroom. You climb 18 polished wood stairs to an upper level rising from the building’s roof. Here you have double-width, as this part extends over your neighbour who only has the normal room mentioned above. Facing outwards, your upper level has an airy parlor with easy-work gas-fuelled fire and a spacious bedroom with pale calf leather headboard: these two adjacent rooms look out to your private rooftop garden, all 100 sq metres of it. In all you have three Philips flatscreens, plus a minibar and hot beverage gear. Next to the bedroom is a walk-in closet with safe, and then comes the toilet. Facing inwards is the Dolomite limestone-clad bathroom, with oval tub, big shower area, electric towel rail, two sinks and Molton Brown. It is very sexy - you can see across the horseshoe into others’ rooftop bathrooms, just - and very sensible (bathroom blinds are electronically closed).

I got online instantly, using InterContinental’s worldwide broadband connector (public areas are wireless). I rushed down to the basement level, looking out into wildflower pastures below the lobby, to try the 24-hour gym and the two swimming pools, one indoors and lined with mother-of-pearl tiles and the other indoor-outdoor, and beautifully hot. Then it was cocktail time, for me a glass of wine, which produced a carafe and delicate Schott glass, and for my companion the one Bavarian whisky out of the 400 beautifully listed and described in the leather-bound menu in Rocks American Bar.

Le Ciel, the finest restaurant, was fully booked by a Toyota party, so we made eyes at the glass-walled in-cellar winery dining area, but since that seats up to 14 it would have been a bit over-the-top for two. We tried the white asparagus menu on the terrace outside the 360-degrees all-day dining, and honestly I ate so much of the delicious bread, from a baker back down in town, I barely needed anything else.

The breakfast buffet has terribly-addictive yoghurt and more breads than you thought existed, and freshest juice and great coffee. Yes, after a good night’s sleep I was hungry, and also ready to go. While my companion did two rounds of the nine-hole golf course (oh so steep, he exclaimed with joy, pointing out that it is a ski slope by winder) I borrowed one of the hotel bikes - Scott Scale Concept 40, naturally, for a place with such style - and pedalled furiously up, for a full 135 minutes nonstop, to Ahornbüchsenkopf, a full 1,600 metres above sea level. The chief concierge, Alexander Koenig, who came from the Side in Hamburg, later told me he had a full spectrum of similar rides for my next visit.

But it was time for the spa, run by Peter Droessel, whom many say is the best in Germany - he came here from Brenner’s Park, Baden-Baden. There is a big La Prairie center, and Clarissa Albert, a most beautiful person born in Colombia, gave me truly memorable care. There is also, being Germany, a massive sauna area but I really do not like sweating it out with masses of nude people, regardless of gender. I went for another swim instead.

There are so many wow features. A satellite copy of your favorite newspaper back home is ‘no trouble’, my maid from Hong Kong was Miss Speed personified, and yet she still had time to replace details. The books in the library beckon for many hours’ reading, the wild flowers around are simply glorious. I liked seeing local Bavarian artistocrats in dirndls and lederhosen at Sunday brunch, and the way that General Manager Tom Bauer bowed deeply and kissed my hand when we were first introduced, in the elevator (I also liked having well-signed and immaculately clean fire staircases as alternatives to the elevators). This place has style.

Tourism Safety in South Africa

April 12th, 2007

Safety is an issue throughout the world and when traveling to any other country there are always precautions which should be taken.

Here are some precautions you should take when visiting South Africa:

Avoid ostentatious displays of expensive jewellery, cameras and other valuables
Never carry large sums of money around. Travellers cheques are your best bet
At night stay clear of dark, isolated areas
Explore in groups rather than alone, and stick to busy, well-lit streets
Plan your route beforehand
If you get lost a policeman or traffic officer will gladly direct you
If you need transport, enquire at your nearest tourism information offices, as public transport may not be the same as back home
If you do have a car then remember to plan your route ahead so as to reduce the chance of getting lost
Keep your doors locked at all times and wind windows up
Lock valuable items in the trunk (called a “boot” in south Africa)
At night, park in well-lit areas
Never pick up strangers, no matter how friendly they appear
If in any doubt about the safety of an area, phone a police station for advise
Always carry a map with you in the event that you do head off course
Also keep your passport and other important documents in a safe place

The level of crime in South Africa is unfortunately high and cation must be taken! Things like robbery, armed assault, carjacknigs, muggings, theft and pickpocketnig all over on the streets of south Africa. Do not make yourself vulnerable to these criminals. If you take care and stay alert you have less chance of experiencing this crime.

These are obviously not the only safety issues in the country and there are other things to keep in mind, such as your health, terrorism, political tension and airline safety. You should be aware of these thigns at home, but when in south Africa be sure to be informed. Never wander alone, especially into townships or to large gatherings which could turn violent unexpectedly.

South Africa is a beautiful country and many people just like you live there, so it cant be all that bad. Don’t let the crime spoil your vacation, but don’t let negligence ruin your life. Stay alert and be aware. If you take care you should enjoy your holiday with no problems.

Playa del Carmen Vacation Rentals

April 11th, 2007

Although Playa del Carmen is a destination full of simple pleasures like swimming, sunbathing, and strolling along its soft sands, your accommodations need not be run of the mill when you stay in a vacation home rental. Completely unique and beyond compare, you can enjoy all of the luxuries of home during your stay in paradise while surrounding yourself with the finest attractions and most pristine beauty this region has to offer.

The fine white sands of Playa del Carmen, not powdery like its Mayan Riviera counterpart Cancun, are the perfect jumping off point for any recreational pursuit you can imagine. Strolling along the sand, sunbathing in its softness, or swimming in its refreshing waters are all favorite activities along this stunning stretch and are easily within reach when you rent a vacation home. Since many vacation rentals are located directly on the beach, whether it be in a condo building or a private villa, cozy comforts and convenient sand access are at your fingertips in a home away from home.

When you stay in a waterfront Playa del Carmen vacation rental, you can wake up to the sound of the waves washing ashore and a brilliant sunrise that seems to pop right out of the water. While these may seem like little parts of your day, they are only the beginning of your true appreciation for this naturally stunning setting. After you pull yourself away from your bedroom window, a light and airy kitchen beckons with fresh coffee and a spacious patio where you can simply soak in the delights of your private Caribbean oasis.

While the morning may have you thoroughly enamored with the Mayan Riviera, Playa del Carmen vacation rentals have even more to offer since the water and soft sands await just steps away. On the north sands and particularly on Playa Tukan, you would have to get up early to stake out a supreme resting spot for the day. However, since you are staying directly on the water, you can beat the resort crowds to the prime stretches of sand or simply use your patio as a secluded beachfront sanctuary away from the crowds that will inevitably arrive once morning is in full force.

Since it is unlikely that you can spend sunup to sundown under the warm Mexico sun, your accommodations can also be a comfortable safe haven when you need some time to cool off or want an energizing lunch. Kick back on the cozy sofa while you watch the news on the big-screen TV or prepare a hearty sandwich, made to your own specifications, in the fully-equipped kitchen. If the sun has worn you down and you need a nap, don’t worry about being suddenly awoken when other individuals arrive back at your accommodations since you can retreat to your private bedroom for a quiet and restful slumber.

Beyond your beachfront excursions, many Playa del Carmen rentals are a short walk away from Quinta Avenida, which is ideal so you don’t need to find a place to park in this pedestrian-only area. However, if you want to head to the Mayan ruins in Coba and Tulum, your car is always easily accessible in your private garage or personal parking spot. A day of exciting adventure awaits, so simply grab your group and go for a memorable look at these archeological pieces of history.

Whether you want to explore the scenic landscape or soak in a little history during your Playa del Carmen journey, a vacation rental facilitates the relaxing and exciting vacation you always imagined. While you expect easy access to everything amazing outdoors, the indoor delights of your rental home, including wireless internet, a private Jacuzzi complete with waterfall, and a media room, allow you to unwind and bask in the splendor of your day without the usual complaints of boredom and tedium. For an all-around spectacular getaway that is sure to have you coming back year after year, book your Playa del Carmen villa rental today.

Leading Private Jet Charter Operators

April 11th, 2007

Flying with the airlines can be a time consuming as well as risky proposition for businessmen as well as for people of wealth. If you absolutely, positively must get somewhere fast you are putting your trust in a system that is overcrowded, inconvenient, and failing when you fly with the airlines. What are your options? Rent or lease a private jet. The following list features some of the leading private jet charter operators in the U.S.

Atlantic Aviation Flight Services

Automotive Air Charter

Avjet Corporation

Business Jet Services

Clay Lacy Aviation

Delta AirElite

Elite Aviation

Executive Jet Mgt

FirstFlight Management LLC

Flightworks

Hop-A-Jet

Jet Aviation

Key Air

Million Air

New World Aviation

Petersen Aviation

Priester Aviation

PrivatAir

Regal Aviation

Richmor Aviation

TAG Aviation

The Air Group

Trans-Exec Air Service

One common thread with each of the operators is that they fly large cabin aircraft. This group is defined by — but not limited to — the following types of aircraft:

Gulfstream 450; 550

Boeing Business Jet

Canadair Challenger 604

Bombardier Global Express; 800

Falcon 2000

In each case you get the security of having two highly trained FAA licensed pilots and you can opt for a corporate flight attendant to provide cabin services and safety assistance. These are no King Airs, Lears, and Westwinds you will be flying. Many rent for $7000. per hour on up, but when you are talking about closing on a merger or acquisition in the morning in Dallas and being back in your Boston office in the afternoon, the price is inconsequential.

There are also several operations that will allow you to purchase a portion of a jet. No, you don’t get a wing only, rather — much like a timeshare — you get to use a private jet operated by one of the providers. Chief amongst these specialized providers are:

Netjets

Flexjet

Flight Options

CitationShares

A third option is to approach one of the private jet aircraft brokers who will arrange the trip for you. Chief amongst these types of providers are:

Sentient

Gold Jets

Bluestarjets

Marquis Jet

AirRoyale

All in all, private flying is where it’s at. If you live in the New York area, you can fly out of convenient Teterboro Airport in New Jersey and land at Van Nuys Airport near Los Angeles. By avoiding Kennedy, LaGuardia, and Newark airports you save precious time and land unruffled in L.A. Who can put a price tag on that?

How To Get More Visitors To Your Website Without Spending A Penny

April 11th, 2007

I am a UK based independent travel consultant, Europe a la Carte. As a small business I have to find ways to get visitors to my site without a large advertising spend. However while I may not spend money, I certainly put in a lot of time and effort!

1 You need to find a niche angle, something that makes you stand out from other similar websites. Every industry is very competitive and you need something to get your site noticed. I feature less well known destinations in Europe, like Lake Iseo in northern Italy, then I can come in the first few listed on a natural search (as supposed to a sponsored or paid for result). If I promote well known destinations like Florence, I will probably turn up on page 100 and nobody will find me.

2 Try to write as many articles as possible relevant to the product/service that you are selling on your website. I write articles and guides about these less well known destinations and promote these articles and guides as widely as possible eg submit to Ezine Articles and Helium. This way you can become an expert on your niche market and your site comes higher in natural searches.

3 Start a blog on your site. Again only post articles which are relevant to your product/service. I write posts about travel in Europe. I try to make at least one post per day. You must then get your blog listed on blog directories and make comments on other related blogs with links back to your blog. Search engines like the way blogs are structured and that fact that there is a constant stream of fresh content on your website. Again this brings you up higher in the natural search results.

Golf Capital of Turkey: Belek, Antalya

April 10th, 2007

Enjoying the advantage of a short transfer time from the Antalya International Airport, Belek is a selected region that has carefully been designed for taking the full advantaNature, Beach, Congress, Football, Tennis and Golf Tourism.

The increase in the number of foreign visitors visiting this fabulous holiday resort is making this an investment zone with very high potentials for holiday makers and investors alike. This past year the numbers get even higher by many discovering Europeans.

Over the past few years, this glowing star of a holiday resort has pushed harder and harder to be placed 1st amongst all other selected holiday regions. Today the stars shine its brightest by Belek earning a name brand with its popularity and presents a new face to the of Turkish Golf Tourism in Turkey. The Ministry of Tourism has declared Belek as the ‘Tourism Center for the next 1,000 years’ due to its unmatchable natural surrounding and beauties along wit hthe touristic facilities that are of the finest quaity and are available for each visitor’s personal convenience.

Belek is a fast and highly developing holiday and golf resort that has doubled commercial investments, public amenities and residential zones in a very short period of time. When people think of Belek, they only think of Belek. But in actual fact, the Belek region consists of the towns of Kadriye and Serik. serik is the main district for the towns of Kadriye and Belek. The locations of the Golf courses and hotels are split between the towns of Kadriye and Belek, and not just Belek alone. But for tourism purposes, the government has chosen to introduce this region as Belek. The booming real estate industry has set off a building explosion amongst the twin towns of Kadriye and Belek. These towns were once quaint little villages practicing mainly agriculture as a major source of income. It was also a place where Turkish people could travel from other cities, to spend their vacations along the luxuiant coastline. today this is an elite area conveniently situated as the first and closest holiday and beach resort from Antalya and the Antalya International Airport.

Belek offers everything you could imagine, compared to other holiday regions, but also offers awide range of golfing and convention tourism thus making the area unique when compared to similar areas. This is one of the rare places on earth where you can enjoy wonderful sunshine 300 days in a year along with the wonders of Turkey. The region consists of a beach of about 29.5 km between River Aksu on the west and the River Sarisu on the east. The Belek region is very rich in flora and fauna as it hosts various habitats with different characteristics such as forest, river, stream, agricultural areas, aquatic habitats and sand dunes. While five-star tourism establishments, summerhouses and arbors occupy an important portion of the beach; there is no construction in one part. For the most part, the region is under protection regulations such as “Belek Specialy Protected Area” and “First Degree Natural Site”. Number of nests determined during the last two years, have revealed that fact that t he Belek region is the second largest known nesting area for sea turtles after the Zakynthos Island of Greece. This result puts forward the strong need of paying more attention to the conservation studies in the region in order to preserve the sea turtles as one of Turkey’s important biological riches as well as to fulfill the responsibilities that have been overtaken in terms of signing international conventions.

The year 2007 leads Belek Tourism Centre to function as Antalya’s new tourism ‘hub’ connecting a new phase inter-district shoreline routes, whereby connecting 60 km from the west coast beaches of Kundu, Lara, and Antalya City through to the Konyaalti Beach, and another 160 km from the east coast to Manavgat, Side and Alanya, thus changing the old road map. This estimated billion dollar project will inevitably bring a vast change in the area while linking the most popular southern beaches and resorts through Belek. This is a project that will bridge over dozens of new communities providing the highest yields of property gains.

It’s a great time to invest, ‘ before you miss the boat’ and right place if you intend to invest to a near prosperous future.

The high volume traffic of Antalya International Airport last summer hosted more than 50,000 visitors daily, breaking new records of nearly 600 flights per day; never seen before. The second International Terminal that opened last summer and offerred service added to this amazing flow of people flooding the area. Moreover a third and fourth terminal will add to this astonishing increase. Nearly 70% of this airport traffic is expected to shift to the upcoming inter-link coastal route, dependant on the Belek holiday and golf resorts forcefully reaching out to the highest popularity in a short span of time and as a result implementing more unforeseen projects that the future leads the area to.

The heart of the region, Kadriye is a newly developing and fast growing town with palm lined streets and a population of 13,000 people. The charming town of Belek is 3 km east of Kadriye and has a population of 9,000 people. This highly developing town is surrounded by newly built arches made in a historical style offering a similar attractiveness to that of Kadriye. The designing of the town gives its visitors a sense of history and the ancient past with the convenience of modernity. Both the towns offer a large variety of shops, restaurants and entertainment with festivals held periodically al the year round and more events and activities. The town public transportation is a convenient, cheap and popular way to get around for those who enjoy scenic views along the main road surrounded by forests. The area is also wonderful for bikers who can peddle down the roads while breathing in the fresh mountain, sea and forest air.

Since last year both Municipalities of Kadriye and Belek have worked hard to add finer touches to the area. Similarly hard work carries on; ensuring security and public conveniences. Today works still continue at a steady pace, extending more new streets and upgrading the infrastructure at the same time. All this work creates a lot of possibilities for fast growing residential areas.

A new project development along the Acisu river between Kadriye and Belek has started. The Acisu River main road is planned to be the 2nd main road, within the area, starting off at the entrance of the town of Kadriye and following along the river all the way to Belek. This new and exciting tourism and lifestyle project will offer scenic boat tours overlooking the spectacular Taurus Mountains. A separate road alongside the river bank will be built for pedestrians strolling to enjoy the peaceful views, joggers, and cyclists. Fine restaurants, bars parks and recreation centres and much more will be coming in the near future.

Ever since the project to beautify the region has been approved and supported by the Turkish Government, it has been a trend amongst foreigners to buy riverside property consisting of attractive holiday villas and apartments or build custom homes along this area.

Nationals of Britain, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium and Netherlands are among the most popular nationalities, to purchase real estate here. Last year alone this increase was well over 40% compared to the year before. A lot of daily property purchases of villas, apartments, golf land and custom build villas has been never been so before.

From an investment point of view, looking back 10 to 12 years ago, all you could find in Belek and Kadriye were the occasional Turkish cooperative holiday homes, more so on the Kadriye side. These villas were built as affordable summer homes for the Turkish vacationers, who would come to spend time during their summer vacations, from big cities such as Istanbul and Ankara. Other than that it was not very populated. Then 4 to 5 years later, a golf course was built; The National Golf Club. soon after the news of a new golf course being built was heard, the hotel chains began investing and building. Subsequently, the town slowly began developing and more cooperative homes were constructed. Since this time, over 38 five star hotels and resorts have surfaced, with another 6 more arising. Land that was once considered of not much value is now very hard to find at what was once know as “cheap” although it is still considerably reasonable than most places in and around Europe.

At the start of 2005, the 2 or 3 bedroom cooperative villas that could once be purchased at 5,000 €, 10-15 years ago, became valued at as low as 40,000 €, and within a year, now carry a higher market value of 85,000 €. The building boom for new residential and commercial projects also began, in order to supply the large demand of foreign investment. Luxurious golf villas began to surface at starting prices of 150,000 €, reaching prices of up to 50,000 €. There are currently over 30 residential projects alone between Belek and Kadriye, and more in the planning stages. If this isn’t a property boom, what is?

It is fair to state that this advantageous rise in property value is very good for another 3 or so more years. But the general business of investment and the development of the region will still be strong for another 5 to 10 years. Needless to say, it is a great time to consider investing in a rapidly developing golfing region. The prices have been escalating at a 30 to 40 per cent increase per annum since 2003.

Some of the features of the resort are the 5 championship Golf Clubs (3 - 27 hole and 3 - 18 hole), 38 five star hotels and holiday villages consisting of a 35,000 bed capacity. During summers the area hosts a population of 70,000 visitors, ranking #1 well over many other towns around. Some of the new golf course projects planned in the region are expected to be completed by the end of year 2007. There are presently 5 golf clubs available in the Belek region and 6 more under new development. The area will eventually be enriched with a total of 18 different golf clubs. The $130 million 7 Star Rixos hotel grand opening happened this past summer. The second-up project is $40 million, exclusive to a 18-hole golf course, Rixos plans to open next year.
